  1. Law Enforcement Pre-Academy Basic Skills Learning Community 100% funded through the U.S. Department of Education, Title V HSI Grant Project

  2. What is a Learning Community? • Learning Communities are two or more classes linked together to create a better and easier understanding of both. • The classes are taught by two or more different instructors; however, exactly the same students attend both classes. • Since you work with the same community of students you help each other succeed and make friends along the way.

  3. What are the benefits of joining a Learning Community? • Develop professional law enforcement written/oral communication and interpersonal skills • Develop critical research and reading skills needed for a career in law enforcement • Meet law enforcement professionals to discuss career opportunities • Receive college credit for four classes with common assignments • Learn life skills to help you succeed in the Law Enforcement Academy and in your career

  4. Who may join a Learning Community? • Any student may join a Learning Community. This basic skills learning community is designed especially for students that are interested in taking the Law enforcement academy and who have placed into the lowest levels of English. •  Students must also agree to take all classes that make up the Learning Community.

  5. What if I want to drop one of the classes in a Learning Community? • If you drop one of your Learning Community classes, you will automatically be dropped from the other class. • Committing to finishing both classes is a powerful incentive to strengthen your skills as a student and to build your self-reliance.
