  1. Introduction to SCH4U0 Mrs. K. Harris

  2. Classroom Expectations • Be polite and be punctual • Hand in work on time(absolutely no excuses. A zero will be given or a maximum of 10 %) • Always be present at all final unit tests • When doing labs remember safety rules at all times • Clean up work station after each lab • Be an active team player

  3. Classroom Expectations • Zero tolerance for the following • Texting in class • Talking on cell phone • Listening to music Electronic device will be confiscated and sent to the main office.

  4. Units • There are Five units • Organic Chemistry • Structure and Properties • Energy changes and Rates of Reaction • Chemical systems and Equilibrium • Electrochemistry (this unit will be an ISU)

  5. Assessment • Term mark is 70% and final summative is 30% Term • Unit test with Knowledge, Inquiry and Communication and possible Making connections (except the ISU) • There are 2-3 formal labs (Knowledge, Inquiry and Communication) • 4-5 mini labs - inquiry • Most units have a final project ( making connections and communication)

  6. Formative assessment • Online Quiz – (3 to 4 per unit) • Homework check • Class work, tutorial group work

  7. Summative 30% of your mark Final Examination – 20% Lab Exam – 8 - 10 % Science Connection Project – 2%
