Different Approaches • The “Party” Approach • The “Miss America” Approach • The “Dentist-Office” Approach • The “Expert” Approach (Romans 2:19-22 ) • The “Jesus” Approach. • Responded to what they were saying and thinking. John 6:60-61. • Traveled and ate and shared everything with them. John 18:1. • Challenged their thinking. John 6:66.

  5. Avoiding a “Static” Cell • Teach & Pray in Weird Places. • “Roam” at other Churches. • Road Trips! • Pool, Bowling, other “Fun” nights often. • Meeting in Different Homes. • Spy on the opposite sex. • TP Joe Botti’s House. • Cell-Only Dinners.

  6. 3 Basic Teaching Principles • Courage: today’s prophets • Sincerity (earnestness) • Material, life itself, the cost involved. • Humility: God gets the glory. • Dependence on the Holy Spirit • Teach His Word, not yours.

  7. Differences from Other Teachings • More “Long-Term” preparation required.(Mt. 10:24) • Not as “formal”. • Not as note-dependant. • More like friend-on-friend. • Doesn’t require a preaching gift. • Less Continuity.

  8. Similarities to Other Teachings: • Winning the “audience”. (Not a policeman) • Spiritual Power (2 Cor. 6:7; Luke 4:32) • Don’t be pushed around! • Polemics. (Don’t just assume interest - John 6:60-61) • Application-oriented. (1Cor. 8:1)

  9. General Topic Areas • Personal Spiritual Growth: • My Heart, Christ’s Home; Green Letters; an Owner’s Manual; "Marriage Book”. Others? • Evangelism • 4 Spiritual Laws; Daniel 9 & other Prophecy.Others? • Ministry • Loving God’s Way; Stedman's “Body Life”; MPOD; MPOE; Others?

  10. The Socratic Method • Changing the topic. • Spontaneous Combustion! • Don’t give out handouts (as a guideline) • Dilemmas and Problem-Solving. • Be Nice (don’t frustrate) !

  11. A Practical Example 2 Cor. 5:15-16 “and He died for all, that they who live should no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf. Therefore from now on we recognize no man according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

  12. Be Prepared! • Mark up your Bibles! • Take Classes! • Recognize the Needs of the Moment!
