EHT vs. NCLB! Subtitle: David vs. Goliath! (Don’t count out David just yet!)
NCLB is simple! • States, develop standards in LA, Math and Science • Test in grades 3 through 8 and 11 on those standards And…..
NCLB Goal is: • All students meet state standards by June 2014!
Building Must Make AYP(Adequate Yearly Progress) • Language Arts Literacy ParticipationProficiency 10 subgroups 10 subgroups • Mathematics ParticipationProficiency 10 subgroups 10 subgroups • Attendance/Graduation Rate
Safe Harbor: • A subgroup significantly increases the proficiency level of a subgroup, but does not meet the benchmark. • NCLB will give credit for meeting benchmark.
NCLB (Goliath) sets rules! • Schools win or lose! • 100% of goals or nothing! • If you lose, you get called: a) “Names”: – SINI b) $ consequences - $99 K
EHT vs. NCLB Building detail!
Pacing guides/Quarterly tests • Teach less, not more! • Focus on NJCCS! • Test standards 3 times before D-Day! • K to 8 in LAL and Math
Increased benchmarks! Yikes! • What if…….
Adopt a building “attitude”! • We all are taking the state-test! • Art, music, PE, social studies, business, industrial arts, parents, students, etc.
The Big Stuff! Analyze our tests at classroom level! • State-test results! • Quarterly tests, mid-terms
“Small Stuff”! What if we.. • Included one difficult ASK “test directions” word on our weekly spelling tests? • Asked social studies, Art, etc. to score one assignment using HSPA rubrics? • Periodically used PA/Channel 2 to focus on state tests?
