  7. Why We’re Here • In 2006, the Canadian Design Research Network (CDRN) was awarded a Networks of Centres of Excellence, New Initiatives grant to help it develop and connect with receptors across Canada. • Today, we present is accomplishments, plans, structures and some news.

  41. Research Excellence The Living Book of Senses by Diane Gromala (SFU) extends the traditional book into radically new, sensorially interactive experience. Wearable Technologies by Joanna Berzowska (Concordia) embeds interactive technologies in fabrics and garments Pierre Boulanger’s (Alberta) Virtualized Reality systems enable remote control and intuitive information queries Experimental ambient intelligence games by Ron Wakkary (SFU) explore new forms of game play enabled by advanced sensing technology and user modeling. Medicine by Design (2007) by AnnMarie Adams (McGill) relates hospital design to 20th C. architecture. A multi-sensory theory of human comfort by André Potvin (Laval)combines physiological, behavioural and psychological reactions to objective measures of environmental conditions
