Monami6 charter description

This working group focuses on improving the functionality of mobile hosts and routers with multiple network interfaces, allowing them to manage multiple prefixes and Care-of Addresses (CoAs) efficiently. We aim to produce clear problem statements and standard track specifications addressing challenges in mobile networking, particularly in establishing and modifying simultaneous tunnels. Key outcomes will include informative analyses on the limitations of mobile hosts and protocol extensions for registration of multiple CoAs with Home Agents, alongside solutions for effective flow and binding policies.

General assumptions • Work on mobile hosts/routers that have • multiple network interfaces simultaneously • multiple prefixes on a single network interface • Focus on MIPv6 and NEMO Basic support • Focus on • Multiple HoAs and HA addresses • Multiple CoAs • Associated issues: establishment, selection and modification of multiple simultaneous tunnels

  3. Objective of the WG • Produce clear problem statements • Produce standard track specification for the straight-foward problems • Re-charter if we can identify more generic issues that prevent to fully take advantages of being multihomed

  4. Other considerations • Tunnel selection policies are out of scope • Tunnels are considered alive as long as packets can be exchanged with the corresponding peers • Local information and other mechanisms could be discussed to quickly detect

  5. Deliverables • A document explaining the motivations for a node using multiple interfaces and the scenarios where it may end up with multiple global addresses on its interfaces [Informational] (June 05) • An analysis document explaining what are the limitations for mobile hosts using multiple simultaneous Care-of Addresses and Home Agent addresses using Mobile IPv6, whether issues are specific to Mobile IPv6 or not [Informational]. (June 05) • A protocol extension to Mobile IPv6 (RFC 3775) and NEMO Basic Support (RFC 3963) to support the registration of multiple Care-of Addresses at a given Home Agent address [Standard Track]. (June 05) • A "Flow/binding policies exchange" solution for an exchange of policies from the mobile host/router to the Home Agent and from the Home Agent to the mobile host/router influencing the choice of the Care-of Address and Home Agent address [Standard Track].
