    1. The Future of Dietetics Diane M. Elder, Ph.D., R.D., L.D.

    2. Look Into the Crystal Apple History – tells us where we have been, mistakes from which we can learn, and triumphs from which we can plan. “Progress . . . depends on retentiveness . . . Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” George Santayana, The Life of Reason [1905-1906], Volume I, Reason in Common Sense, Chapter 12, 1906.

    3. Quick and Interesting Dietetics in the Great Depression Comments from Vera Lewis. "In a couple of months, I will be 83 years old. I don't think there are many Registered Dietitians in St. Louis who worked as a dietitian during the Great Depression. I did. Let me tell you how incredibly difficult it was. I was the Registered Dietitian at St. Louis Maternity Hospital there at the jog on Kingshighway during the Great Depression. My budget was a '19 cent meal per capita' allowance. That was not for just raw food cost either. That also included all kitchen employee wages, the Dietitian's salary of $65.00 per month, and room and board. It also included the prorated rent for the kitchen space used; and the cost of gas used. Even with all prices on every thing very low, it was very difficult to stay within a '19 cent per meal per capita' allowance. These Great Depression years were hard times, the likes of which I hope we never see again." Saint Louis Dietetic Association, http://www.slda.org/sldahistory/id11.html
