  1. Welcome to 2nd Grade 2014-2015

  2. Welcome to Mrs. Rosetta’s Class I am excited about starting my 17th year of teaching with you.

  3. Reading • Weekly Handout on Monday of all skills that will be covered. • Daily Fluency Practice - homework • Vocabulary – Test on Thursday. Words and definitions on the Monday handout. • 5 Stories in each Unit. Unit Review and Unit Test on the 6th week. • Weekly test on Friday over skills

  4. AcceleratedReader • Take the STAR Test to determine reading level • Read the book 3 times aloud & then take test on the computer • Reading the book practices fluency • Taking the test practices comprehension • Must score an 80% average on tests to score points • Prizes are awards for reaching your goal!

  5. Language Arts • Language Test each Thursday – the skill for the week will be on the Weekly Handout. • Writing –We will be doing various writing assignments each week in class.

  6. We will be practicing proper spacing, capital letters, proper formation of printed letters, and sentence writing. • Please encourage your child to write neatly and correctly at all times • After Christmas, we will begin learning cursive.

  7. Mon – write the words in planner at school. Write the words 2 times at home • Tues – write 8 sentences with 8 SP words, or write a story using 8 words. • Wed – Write your words in ABC order, or write the list using one color for vowels and another color for consonants. • Thurs – Take a Pretest. Write missed words 5X. • Fri – Test at School. Write sentences with some of the words.

  8. Math • Know + and – facts fluently, practice daily • Math Tests will be announced in Planner • Homework will be given for additional practice of skills covered in class

  9. Homework • Reading every night • Practice math facts daily. • Spelling homework daily. • Spelling & Fluency homework due on Friday. • Math homework when assigned

  10. Other • Be sure to check the planner and sign it nightly. • Send money in an envelope marked with name and purpose. • Graded Papers folder sent home on Wednesdays. • Check out our School Website! • mces.dalecountyboe.org

Please include days and times that you are available to meet. • I will get back to you as soon as possible.
