  2. Terres, le climat et les ressources naturelles. France has prevalent mountains, farmland, and tourist attractions. Therefore, it allows their people to have jobs in mining, jobs in the wine business, and jobs in tourist attractions. • Slightly smaller than Texas • Varied terrain- plains, mountains, forests, and farmland • Northern area- flat plains with rolling hills • Southern climate- Mediterranean • Northern climate- temperate and rainy • West climate- rainy • Central, East, and Upland- continental climate • Mountains- thunderstorms prevalent in summer

DonnéesEconomiques France is a developed country because they have a high GDP per capita, they have many exports and few imports, and their poverty rate is 6.2%. • GDP growth rate- 0.1% • GDP per capita- $35,500 • Unemployment rate- 9.8% • Poverty Rate- 6.2% • Inflation rate- 2.3% • Exports- machinery/transportation equipment, aircraft, plastics, chemicals, etc. • Imports- machinery/equipment, vehicles, crude oil

  4. Mode de Vie The French are unique in many ways. They take lots of pride in how they appear. They are also very strict on manners. Such as, when you meet someone for the first time it is very impolite, even if your a child, to not shake hands. This shows that they are a very proper country. General: • Measure success by educational level, family reputation, and financial status • Comfortable with people who dress like them • Very patriotic people • They resist the growing popularity of fast food, foreign sitcoms, and American music • Traditional language is French

History: • Hundred Year War from 1337 to 1437 • In 1429 Joan of Arc lead the French to victory over the English • Late 1600’s France dominated the Europe • Under Louis XIV ,aka The Sun King, the movement towards centralized government reached its peak • Napoleon Bonaparte took power declaring himself emperor in 1804 • Napoleon went on a disastrous campaign and ended up being exiled by the Austrian forces Gestures: • The “okay” sign for us means zero for the french • A thumbs up means “okay” for them • When you press your fist into your open palm it is considered impolite and to be avoided in public

  6. Mode de Vie cont. Greetings: • Handshake when people are less than friends • A handshake is a light grip and a single quick shake Fashion: • One of the most “fashion forward countries • Farther ahead of the U.S in terms of fashion

  7. Current Events Recently in Amiens, France workers at a Goodyear tire factor found a letter that had been leaked from from Maurice Taylor, CEO of the Illinois-based Titan Tire company. The letter stated Taylor thought that French workers in that factory were lazy. Taylor said that the workers were being paid for 7 hours of work, but the workers were only working for 3. Extending their own coffee and lunch breaks. The U.S. didn’t just affect this event they caused the entire story.
