O-Sophocles’ depiction of Oedipus suggests that identity is fluid. He begins as a mighty hero and ends in utter misery! This is reflected in his attitude: towards Creon before and after. Reflected in his appearance: gouges eyes out in order to avoid seeing the surroundings which once brought him joy (irony-in Teiresias), how the chorus views him: considered a hero initially, yet pitying him as unworthy of Thebes.
