  2. What are pedigrees? • Pedigrees track traits within lines of descent (family trees) and are used to figure out the method of inheritance of certain traits (usually diseases)

  3. Methods of inheritance • Autosomal dominant: dominant trait carried on chromosomes in pairs 1-22 • Autosomal recessive: recessive trait carried on chromosomes in pairs 1-22 • Sex linked: carried on X or Y chromosome (can be dominant or recessive)

  4. Examples • Y linked • Y chromosome infertility • X linked Recessive: • Hemophilia • X linked Dominant: • Fragile X Syndrome • Autosomal Recessive: • Cystic Fibrosis • Sickle Cell Anemia • Autosomal Dominant: • Huntington’s Disease • Marfan Syndrome
