The 33 period week Why are we proposing this change? • To introduce a skills programme for all pupils • To enable us to link with colleges and other schools • To reduce “wasted time” e.g. registration
Skills Programme Background • BTC 4 - Skills for Learning, Life and Work • BESC Audit – Gaps identified • Appointment of Temp PT Skills Development • Skills Programme for S1-S6 being created. This will incorporate aspects of the current PSE programme and will address gaps.
Skills Programme What types of skills will we focus on? • The focus will be different for different age groups and individuals. • In S1 these will include Learning(PLP, Research, Learning Styles) Life (Resilience, Courage, Relationships, Bullying), Work (Leadership, Working with others, The World of Work) • Themes will be age and stage related.
Skills Programme Additional benefits of the Skills Programme: • Extended contact with Skills Teacher leading to a better knowledge of individual pupils. • Ability for PT Guidance to work with individuals / small groups by extraction • Greater emphasis on PLPs and Profiling • Increased opportunities for Peer Education • In Senior Phase we intend to present young people for additional qualifications
