Science Assignments • Be prepared with your Science Composition Notebook, Loose Leaf Three-Hole Line Paper for quizzes & tests, Pencil and Colored Pencil.  • Look at the whiteboard for today's tasks. • Everyday take notes and answer questions that correspond with the lab or lesson. • Complete a Daily Reflection in your notebook. • How do the concepts I learn in class apply to everyday life? • What did I learn in science class today? • Do I have any questions that are unanswered about the science concepts studied in class? • If you are absent or on vacation you can still meet your requirement by continuing your daily reflection.  Upon your return talk to your study buddy to get caught up on the lab or lesson you missed. It’s your job! • Your Science Notebook will help you get the grades that you want to earn in class.

Science Notebook Organization Do’s • Copy the activity titles word for word. • Use both sides of each page. • Use page numbers. • The progression of the notebook should always try to be from left to right and top to bottom. • Use complete sentences & correct punctuation. • Label pictures & diagrams. • Everyday reflect upon science. • Keep your notebook neat and organized. • Bring your notebook everyday to class. Don’ts • Never use spiral bound notebooks! • Never tear out pages from your notebook. • Never waste pages by skipping pages, thinking you’ll come back to it eventually. • Never use this notebook for other classes. • Never share your notebook with other students. • Never forget your notebook. You need it everyday!

Notebook Cover and Title Page Please provide the following information on your notebook cover and the first page of your book. • Print your (First and Last Name) neatly • Subject (Science), Period ( _ ) • Date (September 9, 2009) • Assignment Description (Energy, Machines and Motion) • My Advisory Teacher is (Ms. Genius)

Table of Contents • Devote three to five pages in the beginning of your notebook for your table of contents. • You decide page amount depending upon how large or small you write your words and letters. • Each entry needs to include the following information: • Date, Activity (whiteboard) & Page Number (ie. 9/11/09 Inquiry 2.1 Building a Battery Page 7)

Organization of Individual Pages Include the following information on pages when you are storing your thoughts: • Page number on bottom outside corners of page. • Headings • Focus questions • Activity title • Date • Sections with titles • Page divisions (lines) depending upon the content • Complete Sentences & Pictures with Labels

  7. Daily Reflections Each day take time to reflect upon science, writing in complete sentences. Use the following questions to help you store your thoughts on paper: • How do the concepts I learn in class apply to everyday life? • What did I learn in science class today? • Do I have any questions that are unanswered about the science concepts studied in class?

  8. Glossary • Devote five to seven pages at the end of your notebook for your glossary. • Most activities contain new vocabulary words that bring new meaning to the activity. • Write the correct spelling of the word. • Define the word using a real-world definition. • Draw a picture that compliments the word.

  9. Organization of Notebook • Notebook Cover and Title Page • Table of Contents • Individual Pages (The daily activities and reflections.) • Glossary

  10. Did You Forget Something? • Did you take notes? • Anything that I put on the board or screen is probably something that you should write down. • If you missed something, you can always come back during advisory time. • You can always check with a buddy and compare notes.
