  2. Three years ago, the Baltimore Teachers Union (BTU) approved a landmark contract that gives BTU professionals unprecedented opportunities to advance in their profession. The ultimate intent of the contract is to advance the education profession, by rewarding successful practice and creating opportunity for individual advancements.  Currently, BTU Professionals have the opportunity to shape their own career paths, earnings, and professional growth.  And now, more than ever, they have greater say in the key operations of their schools.

Three Years Ago… Grade Specific Step & Lane Progression 2010-2011 Base Teacher Scale • (600) Bachelors • 41,951 – 68,763 • (601) Masters • 44,570 – 74,213 • (602) Masters or Equivalent • 47,112 – 78,738 • (603) Doctorate • 49,664 – 82,208 • Annually • Work a year, move a step (w/ at least a Satisfactory evaluation) • Based on education and years of service only

Professional Development • 139 PD courses have been approved by the JGP for AUs • BTU Professionals have earned 3,278+ successful course completions since the contract implementation. • BTU Professionals have earned 5,129+ AUs for PD course completion. • 2,055 BTU Professionals have earned at least 1 AU from PD • 1,462 BTU Professionals have earned 2 or more AUs from PD

  7. Model Pathway • Optional self initiated process • Puts professional peers at the heart of the decision-making • Rigorous standards based peer review • Elevates successful candidates

  8. Model Pathway • Four Cohorts have been completed • Continuous improvements to the Model process and rubric based on feedback from candidates and PPRC • Candidate success increased 29% to 50% from the first Cohort • 213 candidates have earned placement on the Model Pathway

  9. BR Take-aways • Model Cohort 5 (Fall 2013) is NOW open. Registration is August 7th-27th • The JGP would like to come to your school! Email the JGP and your Field Rep if you have a group of teachers that would like to meet with us. • Stay informed (City Schools Inside & BTU Website) • Disseminate/Post accurate information in a timely manner • Be a Resource for the membership • Give updates during monthly staff meetings • Maintain contact with Field Reps and JGP

  12. Highlights AFT/BTU Teacher Leaders Program The AFT Teacher Leaders Program is a nationwide effort to identify and bring together a select group of teachers each month throughout the year to learn how to take active leadership roles in their schools, unions, and communities.
