  3. He was born in San Jose, California. • He attended Heald College at the age of 13 but dropped out shortly after. • He became a produce broker (fruits and vegetables) for L. Scatena and Company. • He started his own business as a produce broker and was very successful. Early Life

In 1904 he founded the Bank of Italy. • He wanted a bank not only for the rich but for all different people i.e. immigrants. • In 1909 he bought different banks in California and turned them into branches of the Bank of Italy. • By 1918 the Bank of Italy became the first statewide bank of the United States. • In 1930 the Bank of Italy merged with Bank of America.
