Snakes symbolize Evil. Sometimes, birds eat snakes. Bird means hope in that film. Birds are personnified by Juniper and snakes are personnified by Mud. It means that Juniper “eat” and control Mud. When Mud sees birds’ flight, it makes him think to Juniper.
