AALL Program Proposals • Understand where your proposal best fits into the BoK domains • Each BoK Content Area identifies its own broad categories and examples of competencies and skill sets • https://www.aallnet.org/education-training/bok/ • Use AALL Knowledge Center • Develop, refine your proposal • Stimulate a new idea or reach a new audience • Think about collaboration • Consider making proposal unique to the meeting location

Proposals & Process • Technology woven throughout all 6 domains • Authors restricted to 2 BoK domains • Each SIS may independently produce one program • September – BIG REVEAL of must-haves & Call for Proposals • Must Haves: https://www.aallnet.org/conference/resources/proposing-a-program/must-program-topics/ • October 1 – deadline to submit program proposals • October & November – Team members review submissions • November – Team leaders meet • December – Notifications & liaison-guides assigned • Curation ongoing • Nurturing seeds of ideas to meet member needs & support BoK • Hot Topics identified in spring 2019 July 13-16 2019 AALL Annual Meeting – Washington, D.C.

  15. Sell your program • Avoid histories • Why would members be excited to attend? • Focus on positive outcomes • What’s unique about your program? • 100 words!

  16. “I only read the titles” • What will you cover? • Who is this for? • What is your tone?

  17. Let’s talk about money • It’s ok to ask • Be reasonable: • $500 for a program of general interest vs • $2500 for a program focusing on niche topics

  18. And the rest….. • Target audience – who will be at AALL? • Length – 1 hour or 2.5? • Number of speakers – most programs don’t need 5 • Actual speakers vs descriptions – you can use both • Format of your program – add a little something • Special needs or equipment?
