  1. Sparrow Health Sciences Library Information Resources Hierarchy Pyramid Once a clinical query is formulated, use the pyramid as a guide for choosing a resource. There are many library resources available. Start with the resources at the top of the pyramid as those resources will require the least amount of time and searching skills. As needed use other resources, but keep in mind that the resources further down the pyramid require more time, increased searching skills and results must be evaluated. Consult with a Library Associate for assistance. No one resource will always answer all questions! • Evidence-based Practice is the combination of: • explicit and judicious use of current best evidence • and • integrating individual clinical expertise • and • incorporating the patient’s values / preferences POEMs (Patient-Oriented Evidence that Matters) are designed to be relevant and must: • Address a clinical question faced by health care professionals• Measure outcomes that are important to clinicians and patients, such as symptoms, morbidity, quality of life, costs and mortality• Have the potential to change practice Less time, less searching skills, less evaluation required DynaMed ACP PIER Pediatric Care Online Nursing Reference Center Rehabilitation Ref Center Point-of-Care ALWAYS evaluate outcomes! most distilled.....................................least distilled Essential Evidence Plus / POEMs ACP Journal Club Cochrane Library TRIP DARE FPIN National Guideline Clearinghouse -- AHRQ Books (print or electronic) UpToDate PubMed Clinical Queries MDConsult OVID Medline Research PubMed CINAHL Other index-type databases More time, more searching skills, more evaluation required Google / Google Scholar Questions?
