Dual EnrollmentThe Missing Link to College Readiness • Principal Leadership – March 2010 - Joni Swanson • Students who participated in dual enrollment programs were 11% more likely to persist through the second year of college and 12% more likely to enter college within seven months of high school graduation • . . . And who completed 20 or more credits in the first year of college were 28% more likely to persist through the second year in college

SAT Preparation • In conjunction with CAPT • Embedded SAT Preparation in Mathematics Courses • Analyzing curriculum for connections (and disconnects) to SAT • Testing students in Alg 1, Geometry, Alg 2 with related SAT test items • Analyzing data to determine strengths and weaknesses of individual students and groups • Teacher training on SAT formats and strategies • Resources for teachers to use in the classroom with units that relate to particular items on the SAT

CT Legislative action this May • AP Courses Mandated • Do Dual Enrollment Programs count? • 4 years of Math for every student • Alg 1, Geometry, Alg 2 or Prob & Stat Required • What structures will we need to put in place at the MS and HS levels to accomplish this? • These requirements (and more!) will affect students entering 5th grade next year.
