  5. ‘ Bergen is not a place but a condition in my soul ’ Bergen is the second largest city in Norway with 250,000 inhabitants, (Bristol has 500,000+) ‘ Bergen is located on the western coast of Norway It has colour, character and contrast and is surrounded by seven mountains. The biggest is Mount Ulriken at 643m. The Cities name ‘Bergen’ is translated from the norwegian word ‘Bjorgvin’ (the meadow among the mountains)

  6. Nursing in Norway: PUBLIC SECTOR: Similar To NHS (funding etc.) PRIVATE SECTOR: Underdeveloped PLACEMENT – T.I. FOCUS General DPS Centre Psychoses Department Poly(Day) Clinic Physical Rehabilitation Centre Nursing Home X-Ray Department

  7. Training......... GENERAL TRAINING: Basic Nurse training is 3 years after which you can specialise...... SPECIALISED TRAINING is achieved through studying whilst you work Usually top up style courses or masters/phd style awards. COURSE STRUCTURE: Similar to uk, with exams, mandatory training, theory And placement but the final year there 3 placements with the extra one being a 4 week specific community based health promotion role. PLACEMENT: In Norway they structure placement slightly differently. “ Ukeplan’s ” (week plans) are written fortnightly. There are also monthly reflection Groups with university tutors, a research presentation in the final week and mid point and end assessments!
