  1. THE CHURCH OF THE ELEVENTH HOUR

  2. MATTHEW 20:1-9,  1 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. 2 Now when he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3 And he went out about the third hour and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,

  3. 4 and said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.’ So they went. 5 Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did likewise. 6 And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing idle, and said to them, ‘Why have you been standing here idle all day?’

  4. 7 They said to him, ‘Because no one hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right you will receive.’ 8 “So when evening had come, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, ‘Call the laborers and give them their wages, beginning with the last to the first.’ 9 And when those came who were hired about the eleventh hour, they each received a denarius.

  5. 5 different times the owner went out to look for the laborer. • 1. Early in the morning • 2. 3rd hour which is 9 in the morning • 3. 6th hour which is 12 noon • 4. 9th hour which is 3 in the afternoon • 5. 11th hour which is 5 in the afternoon

  6. 1. Early in the morning

  7. 2. 3rd hour or 9 in the morning • Acts 2: 14-15, “Then peter step forward and shouted to the crowd… These people are not drunk, as some of you are assuming. Nine o’ clock in the morning is much too early for that.”

  8. 3. On the sixth hour or 12 noon • John 4:6-7, “Jacob’s well was there ; and Jesus, tired from the long walk, sat wearily beside the well about noontime. 7Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.”

  9. Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere – in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in SAMARIA, and to the ends of the earth.”

  10. Acts 8:4-7 4 Therefore those who were scattered went everywhere preaching the word. 5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them. 6 And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. 7 For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed

  11. 4. The 9th hour or 3 P.M. • Acts 10:1, “1There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment, 2 a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always. 3 About the NINTH HOUR of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming in and saying to him, “Cornelius!”

  12. 9 The next day, as they went on their journey and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour. 10 Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance 11 and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth. 12 In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. 13 And a voice came to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” 14 But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.” 15 And a voice spoke to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed you must not call common.”

  13. 5. 11th hour or 5 in the afternoon The eleventh hour is the last hour - 1 John 2:18

  14. Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour. 1 John 2:18

  15. Romans 13:11And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.

  16. The Gospel is eternal, but one hasn’t eternity to preach it.We have only as long as we live to reach those who live as long as we live.

  17. We have only one generation to save a generation. Every generation needs regeneration. • Not to preach the Gospel means that we hide the medicine from the patient.

  18. Isaiah 1:5 Why should you be beaten anymore? Why do you persist in rebellion? Your whole head is injured, your whole heart afflicted.

  19. When it comes to salvation, though, there is no other source for man except the supernatural power of the Gospel.

  20. Our task is to put that remedy on the table. • Jesus has no further word for us until His standing orders are carried out.

  21. The Christians’ business is not BUSYNESS, but WITNESS.

  22. Deuteronomy 3: 4-11 4 At that time we took all his cities. There was not one of the sixty cities that we did not take from them—the whole region of Argob, Og's kingdom in Bashan. 5 All these cities were fortified with high walls and with gates and bars, and there were also a great many unwalled villages.

  23. Deuteronomy 3: 4-11 6 We completely destroyed them, as we had done with Sihon king of Heshbon, destroying every city—men, women and children. 7 But all the livestock and the plunder from their cities we carried off for ourselves. 8 So at that time we took from these two kings of the Amorites the territory east of the Jordan, from the Arnon Gorge as far as Mount Hermon.

  24. Deuteronomy 3: 4-11 9 (Hermon is called Sirion by the Sidonians; the Amorites call it Senir.) 10 We took all the towns on the plateau, and all Gilead, and all Bashan as far as Salecah and Edrei, towns of Og's kingdom in Bashan. 11 (Only Og king of Bashan was left of the remnant of the Rephaites. His bed was made of iron and was more than thirteen feet long and six feet wide. It is still in Rabbah of the Ammonites.)

  25. Statement of Charles Spurgeon: Pray to God to send a few more men with what Americans call “grit” in them; men, who when they know a thing to be right, will not turn away, or turn aside, or stop; men who will persevere all the more because there are difficulties to meet or foes to encounter; who stand all the more true to their Master…

  26. because they are opposed; who, the more they are thrust into the fire, the hotter they become, who just like the bow, the further the string is drawn, the more powerfully it sends forth arrows, and so the more they are trodden upon, the more mighty they become in the cause of truth against error.

  27. Diary of David Livingstone: We are like voices crying in the wilderness; we prepare the way for a glorious future. Future missionaries will be rewarded with conversions for every sermon. We are their pioneers and helpers. Let them not forget the watchmen of the night-us, who worked when all was gloom, and no evidence of success in the way of conversion cheered our paths. They will doubtless have more light than we; but we can serve Our Master earnestly and proclaim the Gospel as they will do.

  28. 2 Corinthians 4:16-17 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory .
