  2. Activities since last LSC (14/06/2013)Status of SMACC-QA (R Ostojic’s presentation) • Activities for the next 2 weeks • Considerations on progress and planning • Conclusions

SMACC Main activities for the next 2 weeks • Sector 56 : • Continuation of on-going activities (Arcs and DFBAs with restart of broaching) • Restart welding at a substantial speed • Complete electrical measurements on the quadrupole diodes • Sector 67 • Complete the opening of the M-lines • Complete the opening of the quadrupole diode containers & startelectricalmeasurements • PerformElQC on presentsplices • Sector 78 • Continue installation of DN200 • Start opening of IC (> 50 % have already W-bellowsopened to allow DN200 installation) • Sector 12 • Disconnect cryodipoles to be replaced (Rate : 1-2 per week)(Objective: All 18 cryomagnets disconnected for end of August 2013) • Other sectors: • Special interventions/investigations From last LSC (14.06.2013)   Welding restarted in 56, see next slide Was presented last LSC by L Grand-Clement  Also started in 81 for advanced info on existing splices    Opening of diode containers also in 78  > 70% (#123) are installed  142 ICs are completely opened + 50 W bellows opened  All (#6) are disconnected, starting in S23 (#2) 

SMACC Progress report Activities since last LSC • ELQC measurements • See R Ostojic’s presentation • Critical NC LHC-QN-QBBI.A21L6-M2-Int-cable • Investigations are on-going (not top priority) •  Less critical outlier in S45: Magnetistaion results shows that there is no significant Ic degradation. (Detailed report at a further LSC) • Conservative measure: • Investigate other outliers (Open IC, open M, (enhanced) ELQC but NO splices desoldering [Limited spare availability] (Not top priority)

SMACC Progress report Activities since last LSC • Quadrupole diodes • S56 & 67 opened, 23/51 opened S78 • One component (Inconel threaded piece) is expected to be delivered next week [Delay for starting the actual consolidation, progress on opening diodes containers] • NC corrected, validated by electrical tests Courtesy L Grand-Clement

SMACC Progress report Activities since last LSC • M insulation installation • 68 ICs equipped (See issue with interference with M lines) [Was 52 2 weeks ago] • ELQC procedure updated • SeeRanko’spresentation • M-welding • 18 ICs released beginning of the week. (6 where only M3 has to be welded): Now 4 remains / 10 were welded this week, not yet controlled • 10 more couldpotentiallybereleased if accepted to come back for diode containers rewelding and the equivalent of 7 more ICscouldbereleased if individualslines are welded: Not the optimum use of weldingresources but betterthan not working

PEEK protection (optional, 2 halves) PEEK protection (2 halves) Spacer to avoid overheating (concept) - function: protection againts wear and insulation if damage - smooth insulating surfaces - minimal thickness to avoid deforming the busbars (≤ 2 mm) - strong and very resistant to wear - avoid overheating (being validated) Courtesy A Perin

Not in the last ones ! • One local NC blocks 1 subsector(214 m / 16 ICs)

SMACC Some considerations on progress and planning • Main 13 kA Splices: •  Started a week in advance, now 2 weeks • Special Interventions: •  10 days delay: late release of some sectors (45) • DFBA: •  1 month delay: Issue with broaching procedure • DN200: •  > 1 month delay: late release of sector 78 / Start up difficulties • SMACC: •  1.5 days advance (but we started one week in advance) • Only completed activities are accounted for, not the on-going ones • Weighting factors are based on initial estimates • Achieving baseline rates per activity has to be demonstratedSequential processFocus on quality first, then production rates • Mindthe last 10 % effect (Minimum consequence on first sectors)

SMACC Main activities for the next 2 weeks • Sector 56 : • Continuation of on-going activities (Arcs and DFBAs with restart of broaching) • Continue welding of M lines at an increased rate • Investigate the overheated cable (21L6) • Sector 67 • Continuation of on-going activities (Arcs and DFBAs with restart of broaching) • PerformElQC on presentsplices • Sector 78 • (Almost) complete installation of DN200 • Complete opening of IC • Reconnect the disconnectedcryodipoles (#2) • Sector 81 • Open M lines and perform advanced ELQC on about 20 ICs • Sector 23, (34 or 45 depending on access constraints) • Disconnect cryodipoles to be replaced (Rate : 1-2 per week)(Objective: All 18 cryomagnets disconnected for end of August 2013) • Other sectors: • Special interventions/investigations

Conclusions • Strategy under implementation for the higher number of splices to redo (Teams reinforced) • Solution ready for DFBA splicesbroaching • Main concerns : • Interference between insulation box and M lines caused by non-nominal busbars position and impact on welding activities • Overheated cables and high R@ 1.9K investigation to define repair procedureCould require replacement of a magnet • Still within schedule, margin decreased • Focus on qualitythen production rates • Long way to go … on good trackswith a motivated team
