  4. To search the catalogue … • Online database (web-based) • Online you can: • Search (basic and guided) • Reserve items currently borrowed • Check and renew loans • Warning: Automatic suspension from borrowing when items are 1 week overdue. • Let’s have a look …Library catalogue

  5. Note the ‘Call number’ (or ‘Spine number’) Dewey classification system (decimal): 230 231 231.1 231.3 231.7 231.74 231.745 231.74509015! Usually followed by first letters of author’s name: 230 ABU 230 DEV 1 230 DEV 2 On shelves in order of number, then alphabet If preceded by: ‘R’, a Reference book (e.g. R 230 SER) ‘RA’, on the Atlas stand To find an item on the shelf

A few rules to help us share … • No food or drink, please (exception: water in a screw-top bottle is OK) • After using items, do not re-shelve them … leave them on a shelving trolley. • Don’t take items out of the library without registering them as ‘borrowed’ in the database. • Try not to hoard.
