  7. PASSION The word passion means: “intense or overpowering emotion. An intense enthusiasm for something: a keen interest in a particular subject or activity, such as  a passion for music.” The keen interest and enthusiasm at Elim Church is Jesus Christ and His glory. The cell system gives wings to express God’s passion, making everyone a minister and decentralizing the church so that everyone can be involved. “Passion is the key to our success,” Mario Vega told me. “Without passion, it doesn’t work. If the cell leader doesn’t have passion, he won’t multiply his life into others. The most important thing about leadership is passion. You must have passion.”

  8. PASSION REFLECTION Share the passion level current in your church today. What have you done that helps drive the passion level higher?

  9. PENETRATING THE CITY THROUGH EVANGELIZING CELLS Penetration Evangelism Evangelistic Ministry of the Cell Host/Hostess Seizing Opportunities to Evangelize Goal Setting Planning to Evangelize The Privilege of Multiplication Fulfilling God’s Evangelistic Purpose

  10. FRIENDSHIP EVANGELISM We make and strengthen friendships with non-believers with the goal of serving them and living out our testimony of love for them. We invite non-Christians to attend cell groups. We pray for the conversions of those we invite to the cell. We emphasize to cell members that the goal is multiplication, and the way we’re going to multiply is through evangelism.

  11. Goal Setting Souls count to God, and Elim believes they can do a better job at winning men and women to Jesus Christ if they plan for growth. Mario Vega works with each district to determine how many new cells can be established. A newer, more receptive district might produce more cells than an older, saturated one. After Mario went through this process with the district pastors, together they set the goal of 600 new cells for 2003. Multiplication goals are then updated weekly and posted to show which leaders are closest to reaching their goals. By posting the goals, each leader knows where he or she stands in the process. The leaders encourage and stimulate each other for the Kingdom’s sake. Elim is passionate about conquering a city for Jesus and thus believes strongly in setting clear goals to accomplish it.

  20. WHAT KIND OF GOALS? • THE GOAL OF NEW LEADERSHIP is the best OVER-ARCHING goal. • This translates into NEW CELL GROUPS • This automatically includes • Baptisms • Conversions • People in Training

  21. THE NEED FOR BALANCE in GOAL-SETTING • Not too high (danger of burn- out and low-quality cells). • Not too low (no challenge). • REFLECTION: • SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH GOAL SETTING THUS FAR IN YOUR CHURCH. • HOW CAN ELIM’S EXAMPLE OF GOAL SETTING APPLY TO YOUR SITUATION

  22. WORKING TOGETHER TO GET THE JOB DONE Two Separate Meetings Developing the Core (p. 96) Purpose of the Planning Meeting (p.97) Order of the Planning Meeting (P. 98)

  23. Planning to Evangelize Each week, the cell nucleus meets together to plan their evangelism strategy for their Saturday night gathering. Jaime Cea said, “The weekly planning meeting is essential for cell evangelism. We plan on how to reach out in the neighborhood and develop friendships. We then talk about who we’re going to invite. Then we assign each cell member the responsibility of inviting certain people. Each person has an evangelism job during the week in preparation for the cell group.” We make and strengthen friendships with non-believers with the goal of serving them.” REFLECT: SHARE WHAT YOU’VE DONE THUS FAR TO PLAN FOR EVANGELISM. IS THE ELIM EXAMPLE RELEVANT TO YOUR CHURCH? HOW?
