  1. How to Choose a Travel Companion Yolo or solo? Selecting the right travel companion is not always front of mind when planning a trip, but who you choose to surround yourself with deeply impacts your own experience especially during travel.  Your travel buddy can make or break your journey and the memories you take with you long after you’ve returned home, so choose wisely. Your conversation about what you would like your trip to look and feel like should begin long before you board your flight. Discussions surrounding budget, accommodations, planned excursions and sights-or not, expectations, boundaries, should all be topics touched upon before travel preparations of any sort. https://clairescollective.com/2018/06/12/plus-one-or-none-how-to-choose-a-travel-companion/

  3. Choosing a travel companion • Topics to talk about: • Budget • Hostel or hotel? • How much are you budgeting for activities, food, excursions, nights out, etc. for the trip? • Expectations • What have you been building up in your head as your trip draws nearer? What are you most looking forward to? • When your vacation comes to a close, what do you want to leave with? What memories will you hold close until your next chance to travel? https://clairescollective.com/2018/06/12/plus-one-or-none-how-to-choose-a-travel-companion/

  5. Boundaries • What types of experiences are you not open to? • Are we free to part ways if we want to experience different aspects of what our destination has to offer? • How do you envision our trip together? • Having clearly established boundaries of what the other is not open to will prevent many uncomfortable conversations. • To plan or not to plan? That is the question. • Some sights may require booking in advance-if you’re really keen on seeing certain sights, I would recommend you research ahead of time and find out what places you’ll need to schedule into your days and pay for prior to visiting so you don’t miss out. That being said-its always important to leave room for the unexpected, off-the-beaten path moments that tend to be the most memorable when your trip is done. • Priorities • You may not have the time to see and experience every last thing on your bucket-list (you can always save some things for your return trip to your destination), but what are the sights, experiences, foods, etc. that are front of mind that you want to prioritize and make happen during your trip this time around? Make sure you and your travel buddy are aware of one another’s top 10 lists so that you both get the experiences you’re seeking. https://clairescollective.com/2018/06/12/plus-one-or-none-how-to-choose-a-travel-companion/

  7. You and your travel companion do not have to be on the same page when it comes to every facet of your trip, but you’ll want to pick a person who is open to compromise, and is excited to do at least some of the same activities you intend on doing-or else, why are you traveling together at all? Speak up Some people may fall prey to being the traveler to give-in and take each place by their travel partner’s pace. If you find you’re the one taking the lead on the decision-making aspect of your trip make sure that you check-in with your partner to ensure they are not concealing feelings or compromising their experience. Both travel companions deserve to have their dream destination come to life in the experiences they’ve envisioned. If you’re the one biting your tongue and missing out on your bucket list, sit your travel companion down and clear the air. Contribute to the conversation, voice your concerns and desires before your trip comes to a close to make certain your both leave you destination fulfilled by the experience. https://clairescollective.com/2018/06/12/plus-one-or-none-how-to-choose-a-travel-companion/
