  1. APP System Integration & Test Review (SITR)April 8, 2014 Agenda & Introductory Material

  2. SITR SITR agenda: • Status • Response to assigned CDR RIDs • Departures of delivered hardware and software from the design presented at CDR • Post-CDR updates to this Integration and Test Plan and other critical documents • Waivers, non-conformances, and changes to requirements • Integration Plan • Status: What was delivered (MEL)? Any discrepancies? • ICD compliance • Status of connectors and structures (cables, racks, cooling, grounding…) • Test hardware • Assembly procedures, including first application of power • Disassembly, shipping and reassembly • Anything else to be done prior to the PAI sequence • Open issues and concerns Test Readiness Workshop (Tuesday p.m.) • Work on reconciling procedures with full requirements matrix in I&T Plan

  3. APP SITR Hardware Status

  4. Response to CDR RIDs • 2 unresolved • 12 resolved but not close • 42 closed

  5. Departures from CDR design • Delivered Hardware • ROACH cards are configured on ALMA network, not on private network as proposed. Network switch and NIC were provided in case ALMA prefers to isolate them. • Discrete 1 pps distributer implemented as final adder card (new Xilinx code). • Maser rack design modified to incorporate a pair of standard seismic racks. • Remote access added to maser.

  6. Departures from CDR design • Software (summary) • Minor tactical changes only, including updated feature list

  7. Post-CDR updates to documentation Updates to existing documents • Integration & Test Plan V2.1 (changes) • Hardware ICDs New Documents or summaries • SITR plan • Assembly procedures • Summary of Engineering Change Requests (deviations from ICD or requirements) • Problem and Failure summary report • Non-conformance records

  8. SITR Plan • See document

  9. Assembly procedures • Maser power-up sequences (see maser I&T plan). This should be at a level of detail appropriate for high altitude operation. • Pictures sent to support installation of PICs, power supplies, etc. Need to power down, insert cables, plug in, install boards. • Test fixture procedures are same as have been followed during development. • Some of this information will be captured in the maintenance plan. Some captured in PAI procedures. • ESD protocols, etc.

  10. Engineering Change Requests since CDR • No requirements changes since revised I&T plan submitted • Need to check on specifications such as set-up time between scans (slower than expected) • “B” version of computing ICDs • Between ALMA Phasing Project And ALMA Computing (ALMA-05.11.00.49-0004-B-ICD) • Between C167 Microprocessor And ROACH2 FPGA (internal ICD, ALMA-05.11.10.49-0005-B-ICD)

  11. Problem and failure reports (since CDR) • Minor problem with DTS test fixture • Solution: Operating system with 2 input channels instead of 3 • Shorted pins in two connectors on the PIC. • Solution: • Move all of the signal vias so they fan-out on the outside edge of the pins instead of under the connector • "Tent" all of the remaining vias under the connectors with solder mask to minimize the risk of shorts • The assembler has taken steps to reduce the amount of solder used so it will also reduce the potential for bridging • Cause: Workmanship • 4 of 12 SFP+ cards failed incoming inspection. • Solution: Failed boards replaced • Cause: Unclear. • 1 PPS maser signal failure after remote upgrade • Solution: Reset on network card • Mitigation: Document in maintenance plan • Impact: Low (does not affect operation) • Various software bugs fixed • Unresolved issue in y-y polarization sum (firmware in LTA?). Note that x-x sum works fine.

  12. Nonconformances and waivers • No nonconformances • No waivers

  16. What was delivered? • 2 recorders at OSF currently, one at NRAO. Two more will be shipped from Haystack to OSF when development is complete at Haystack, but may not be in time for PAS. • OFL delivered to NRAO • Maser to be shipped to OSF (est. May 10).

  17. ICD Compliance • See ICDs

  18. Connectors and structures • Cables, racks, cooling, grounding, etc. • Cables • Either in place or about to ship • Maser? Check with Shep. • Cooling: • Unknown, need to measure PICA FGPA and PowerPC in AcRv sequence. • Maintenance plan for Mark 6 should describe cooling issue with upgraded mother board. • Measure OFL box at AOS? • Maser should be ok, same as APEX. Battery life? • Racks • Maser rack structurally complete, requires grounding plan as part of maser PAI/PAS. • Rails for recorders shipped

  19. Test hardware • Need to identify 2-antenna correlator (Bulletproof not available). Two in technical Facility Building (TFSD preferred, TFInt is option). • Otherwise just routine lab equipment (scope, hand-tools).

  20. Assembly procedures • (Will walk through lab)

  21. Disassembly, shipping, reassembly • Piecemeal approach… • Component-level testing on install following ALMA protocols (regression testing) • Maser shipped under battery power, needs to be delivered within TBD hours. • See maser I&T plan. • See Transportation Plan for crating. Revise transportation plan for maser. • Shock sensors, etc., as needed.

  22. Open issues & concerns

  23.
