  1. New MPTS Analysis for 2008 B.P. LeBlanc PPPL 22-DEC-2008 BPL_22DEC08_1

  2. MPTS Run for 2008 • Polarizer in place for the first time • Reduces background radiation, but saturation remains a problem • First run with in-situ window calibration • Window coating observed and measured • Two laser shutdowns • Measures now in place to improve reliability • Phase-3 calibration done after the run • New analysis performed BPL_22DEC08_2

  3. New MPTS Analysis for 2008 • Phase-3 channel calibration for 2008 • Change Te @R=54.5cm • Software modification to add extra time points under background light saturation • In-situ window calibration • Increase ne about 10% at end or run • Increase Te within error bar • Valid array (ntime, nrad) • Valid>0 means ok BPL_22DEC08_3

  4. Phase-3 2008 CalibrationMain change seen at R=54.5cm BPL_22DEC08_4

  5. Background Light SaturationSignal hits digitalization maximum BPL_22DEC08_5

  6. Software Modification for Saturation Condition BPL_22DEC08_6

  7. What Happened after 0.6s?Neutron signal consistent with Te drop BPL_22DEC08_7

  8. Output Array VALID (ntime,nrad)Has same dimensions as Tef, etc. • VALID=1 c2 ok • VALID=2 c2 ok with background sat • VALID=3 c2 ok,but with bckgd-sat “repair” • VALID=-1 c2 too high • VALID=-2 c2 too high with bckgd sat • VALID=-4 c2 ok, but dTe > Te BPL_22DEC08_8

  9. Effects of in-situ Window CalibrationLast run day shot 130730 @0.49s Valid Te increase within error bar ne increase about about 10% BPL_22DEC08_9

  10. Window Coating Correction and Saturation Remedial BPL_22DEC08_10

  11. Effects of in-situ Window CalibrationLast run day shot 130730 @1.22s Valid BPL_22DEC08_11

  12. Effects of in-situ Window CalibrationLast run day shot 130730 around 1.2s New time point Valid BPL_22DEC08_12

  17. Concluding Remarks • New analysis will be loaded to MDS soon • During the Holidays • Valid array • Valid > 0 indicates ok, • but caveat emptor when valid=3 • Window coating effects were corrected based on the in-situ calibration • Effects seen at end of the run on Te and ne • Correction meaningful at the of the run BPL_22DEC08_17
