  1. February 14, 1899 Dear Brother Vincent On my trip to Ellis Island I had to go through some easy and hard places. First, my new best friend Nichen and I were very scared once we reached the medical exam. The first English word we learned was paper. It was very hard when we came across the citizenship test. The reason it was so hard is because I did not understand English. People kept talking jibber-jaber at Ellis Island. If Nichen and I did not learn English , I would say lets go back to China.
