  3. The Diploma Paths, which one is the right one? CORE 40 ACADEMIC HONORS TECHNICAL HONORS GENERAL DIPLOMA

  4. EVSC and Intended to prepare students for admission to four-year colleges and universities, one and two-year colleges and technical schools, and/or successful entry into the workforce. English: 8 credits Social Studies: 6 credits Mathematics: 6 credits Science: 6 credits (4 credits for General Diploma) Health: 1 credit Physical Education: 3 credits Directed Electives: 5 credits from World Language, Fine Arts and/or Career/Technical Electives: 6 credits (Career/Academic sequence recommended) Total: 41 credits

With Academic Honors For the Core 40 with Academic Honors diploma, students must: • Complete all requirements for Core 40. • Earn 2 additional Core 40 math credits • Earn 6-8 Core 40 world language credits (6 credits in one language or 4 credits each in two languages). • Earn 2 Core 40 fine arts credits. • Earn a grade of a “C” or better in courses that will count toward the diploma. • Have a grade point average of a “B” or better. • Complete one of the following: A. Complete AP courses (4 credits) and corresponding AP exams B. Complete IB courses (4 credits) and corresponding IB exams C. Earn a combined score of 1200 or higher on the SAT critical reading and mathematics D. Score a 26 or higher composite on the ACT E. Complete dual high school/college credit courses from an accredited postsecondary institution (6 transferable college credits) F. Complete a combination of AP courses (2 credits) and corresponding AP exams and dual high school/college credit course(s) from an accredited postsecondary institution (3 transferable college credits)

Core With Technical Honors For the Core 40 with Technical Honors diploma, students must: • Complete all requirements for Core 40. • Complete a career-technical program (8 or more related credits) • Earn a grade of “C” or better in courses that will count toward the diploma. • Have a grade point average of a “B” or better. • Recommended: Earn 2 additional credits in mathematics and 4-8 credits in World Languages for four year college admission. • Complete two of the following, one must be A or B: A. Score at or above the following levels on WorkKeys: Reading for Information - Level 6; Applied Mathematics - Level 6; Locating Information - Level 5 B. Complete dual high school/college credit courses in a technical area (6 college credits) C. Complete a Professional Career Internship course or Cooperative Education course (2 credits) D. Complete an industry-based work experience as part of a two-year career-technical education program (minimum 140 hours) E. Earn a state-approved, industry-recognized certification

Standard Diploma • Students who meet the minimum graduation requirements established by the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation and the State of Indiana but do not meet the Core 40 requirements may graduate with a Standard Diploma. • Students will be required to: • Earn a minimum of 6 credits from a career academic sequence intended to prepare students for post-secondary opportunities. • Earn a minimum of 5 flex credits from one of the following: • Additional courses from the career-academic sequence • Courses involving work place learning • Advanced career – technical education, college credit • Additional courses from the high school curriculum • Pass ECA’s in Alg. and Eng 10 or qualify for the waiver.

  10. The Diploma. . . . In order to graduate and receive a diploma: 1. You must have 41 Core Credits & pass both the English 10 and Algebra ECA. or 2. You must have 41 Core Credits, a 95% attendance rate and qualify in accordance to the waiver work sheet.

  11. Attendance is Important! • Loss of credits (10 days out) • Loss of drivers license • Loss of work permit • Denial of waiver

  12. Athletic Eligibility • For the IHSAA, you must take seven and pass five classes to be eligible. • For the NCAA, you can register with the NCAA Eligibility Center. http://eligibilitycenter.orgSee Mr. McWilliams for NCAA eligibility information.

  13. Shorten day next year? Seniors are required to attend school all day. However there may be circumstances that warrant a shortened day such as: • Enrolled in a Work Study Program (ICE, Marketing, or Related Work) • Medical reason • Supporting a child

  14. Pathway to Senior Year Your student will need to enroll in: • English 12 A or AP • Math • Science (if needed) • Government/ Econ • PE / Health Classes if still needed • Core Courses not passed • Electives (determined by Diploma Path) • Challenge Yourself!! Rigor!

  15. PLAN/PSAT • PLAN- Practice ACT usually taken by Sophomores, but it may be taken by Juniors who did NOT take it as a Sophomore. Contains an interest inventory. Register @ CHS in January test given February. • PSAT/NMSQT – Test will be given October 16 @ CHS; Registration @ CHS beginning tonight. $14.00 in commons in morning until 10-10-13.

  16. SAT/ACT • Students should register to take SAT and/or ACT in spring of junior year; retake in fall of senior year if dissatisfied with scores. • SAT: online at www.collegeboard.com • tests critical reading, math, writing • ACT: online at www.actstudent.org • tests English, math, science, social studies; writing is optional but essential to take. • These tests are not EVSC tests

  17. SAT/ACT • Fee waivers are available. • Check the bulletin or websites for test dates and registration deadlines you have in your handouts. • Tutorials to help you study for SAT and/or ACT are available online or at the public library. • Try to sign up for taking either of the tests at Central (more familiar here) and be careful when choosing school code and test center code.

  19. College and Career Planning • Colleges look at snapshot of grades after junior year! Make this year count! • Attend a summer program in your area of interest. Doing this could improve your college chances. • Create a résumé of your extra curricular and volunteer activities, etc.

  20. Which College is Right for You? • Campus visits are IMPORTANT! Make a visit this spring and summer! • Meet College representatives @ CHS when they visit. • Greater Evansville College Fair: Oct.6th @ USI 1:30 • Take an “official” visit: meet with admissions representative, take a guided tour, meet with a representative from the department/major in which you have an interest.

  21. Scholarships and Financial Aid • Generally available to seniors via monthly Senior Scholarship Report. • Juniors can watch for junior scholarship information (which is rare) in the daily bulletin or on Central’s Guidance Website.
