What is it? • Awarded by German armed forces • Pre-approved by the Department of Defense for acceptance • Commonly earned by Army units stationed in Germany • Comes in 3 levels • Gold, Silver, Bronze • Everyone participating WILL be shooting for Gold • Is determined by performance in pistol shoot, ruck march and fitness test • So common for foreign military members to try to get it that they made an Americanized version

Wear • Army: • All personnel may wear full-size decorations and service medals on the Army blue and white uniforms • Navy: • Foreign awards which are similar in design to U.S. awards may be worn on the same occasions prescribed for wearing of U.S. awards • Air Force: • Wear badges or miniature medals on the formal dress or mess dress uniforms • Wear only one foreign badge • Marines: • Unsure through my research but probably not authorized

  5. Basic Summary of Requirements • Commander Approval • Basic Fitness Test • 100 Meter Swim • Marksmanship Event • NBC MOPP Test • First Aid Course • Ruck March

Overall Plan • Participants will be organized into 4 groups of 75 cadets each (300 spots total) • Phase 1 (Commander Approval and Registration • Completed before October 11 • Phase 2 (100 Meter Swim and Basic Fitness Test) • Completed during morning PT the week of November 10 • Phase 3 (NBC/MOPP Test, First Aid Class/Test, and Marksmanship Test) • Completed on Saturday November 16 • Phase 4 (Ruck March) • Completed on Sunday November 17

Commander Approval (Phase 1) • Only contracted cadets (of any class year) may participate • Each ROTC Commander is enabled to set basic requirements for their cadets to participate that exceed Corps requirements of • Passing Height/Weight • 2.50 Overall TAMU GPA • 230 minimum Corps PFT • Good standing with the Corps (academics and discipline) • ROTC Commander will sign off that the cadet meets their requirements and is “qualified in terms of expertise and character” • Open to enlisted or officers who work in ROTC programs as well should they wish to participate with cadets • First item on the “Report Sheet” document will be signed

Registration (Phase 1) • Cadet will be responsible for turning in several items in order to register: • Semi-completed “Report Sheet” document with either PAS, PMS or PNS signature as well as completed personal information • Completed registration form with their basic information • Will be used for getting contact information and placing cadets in groups based on commonalities of class year, ROTC, outfit, etc. • $50 to help pay for facilities, ammunition, food, etc. • Also helps ensure that cadets who are registering are serious about participation • Your participation in no way guarantees you receiving the award. You will be solely judged on your ability to pass each portion.

  9. Basic Fitness Test (phase 2) • Administered by German Officer • 11x10 meter sprint test (similar to shuttle run) • 60 sec maximum • Chin-up test • 5 sec minimum • 1000 meter run (0.62 miles) • 6 min 30 sec maximum • Administered during regular morning PT times during week of November 10th

  10. 100 Meter Swim (Phase 2) • Administered by German Officer • 4 laps in dive well of Rec Center in less than 4 min • Completed in BDU’s without boots • Uniform comes off in water after swimming portion is complete • Administered during regular morning PT times during week of November 10th

Marksmanship Event (phase 3) • Administered by American personnel • 6 shots at 25 meters with M9’s • 2 prone • 2 kneeling • 2 standing • Must hit at least 4 shots to pass; 1 shot on each target • Levels • Gold=6 hits • Silver=5 hits • Bronze=4 hits • Must wear BDU’s, gear and helmet • First shot double action • Will take place in groups on Saturday, November 16th

  12. NBC MOPP Instruction/Test (phase 3) • Administered by American personnel • Get into full MOPP and undress after that • Will take place in groups on Saturday, November 16th

  13. First Aid Course (phase 3) • Administered by American personnel • Combat Life Saver course or equivalent is valid • OR equivalent training/written test (40 questions/60 minutes) • Test provided by Germans • Will take place in groups on Saturday, November 16th

  14. Ruck March (Phase 4) • Administered by German Officer • 12 km (approximately 7.5 miles) in 2 hours • Current course is approximately LRC to Nuclear Plant • 15 kg (approximately 33 pounds) on back • Will take place in groups on Sunday, November 17th

  15. Finale • Once all items are completed, completed forms will be sent out to be signed off by German 0-5 equivalent officer (LtColDobschaw at HSU) • Certificates will be mailed back to us with badges • Finale BBQ planned for Sunday after the Ruck March • Award ceremony at A&M (possibly with Germans) in Spring • Dependant on when badges/certificates are mailed back to A&M
