  2. is for Atomic War. In the world of Fahrenheit 451 there were two atomic wars.

  3. is for Benjamin Franklin. In the book Benjamin Franklin is the first fireman.

  4. is for Clarisse. Clarisse is Montag’s neighbor who later on gets hit by a car and dies.

  5. is for “Dover Beach.” “Dover Beach” is the poem that Montag reads to Mildred's friends. The poem made Mrs. Phelps cry.

  6. is for English Professor. The English Professor is Faber, a guy that Montag meets in a park.

  7. is for Fahrenheit 451. Fahrenheit 451 is the temperature at which book paper catches on fire.

  8. is for Gloria. Gloria is one of Mildred’s friends whose husband jumped off of a building to commit suicide.

  9. is for Hound. The Hound is used to track people that own books; the machine injects morphine to your body.

  10. is for Igniter. An Igniter is a match. There are one million lights in one igniter.

  11. is for Jets. There are jets flying around because there are always wars going on. The wars are usually about 2 days long.

  12. is for Kerosene.Kerosene is a liquid used instead of gasoline to burn the houses.

  13. is for Leisure. Leisure is the ability to digest what people read.

  14. is for Mildred. Mildred is Montag’s wife. Mildred is the one who calls in the alarm about the possession of the books.

  15. is for Numbness. Montag feels numb towards Mildred; he feels like he doesn’t know her at all.

  16. is for Operator. There were two operators curing Mildred. One was with a black cobra and the other with a pump that replaced her blood with new one.

  17. is for Porches. Porches are not made anymore because people would sit on them and think, which is a bad thing to do.

  18. is for Quality. The lack of Quality is the number one reason why books are banned.

  19. is for Reading. Reading is forbidden because it makes you smarter and then you’re not equal to others.

  20. is for Salamander A salamander is a lizard that can live through fire. It is also one of Montag’s symbols.

  21. is for TV Wall. TV's are big plasma walls that cost $2000.

  22. is for Uncle Tom’s Cabin Uncle Tom’s Cabin is banned because it makes white people feel bad.

  23. is for Vacuum-Underground Vacuum-Underground is a metaphor used to describe the subway.

  24. is for White Clown. White Clown is Jesus but people don’t know that because there is no religion. He also plays on “Family”.

  25. is for Exaggerate. When Beatty was talking to Montag why books are bad he was exaggerating.

  26. is for Youngstown Youngstown is a town in which a man named Harris has a book of Ecclesiastes.

  27. is for Zealous. Montag is zealous to read a book and see what’s in it.
