Objetivos • Recognize verbs conjugated in the past tense and apply reading strategies learned throughout the year in order to read a text about a specific aspect of Mexican history and present information about the reading to the class • Learn about Pinochet’s dictatorship in Chile in order to understand important background information for the movie Machuca

Lecturassobre la historia de Mexico • You will be working in small groups to read a short text in Spanish about a specific aspect of Mexican History, answer questions based on this reading, and create an informational poster to summarize the 3 most important ideas that you learned • Your is only allowed to ask me THREE questions for this assignment. Each time you ask a question, I will take one of your “preguntas” tickets that will be handed out after you begin working. • You may, however, feel free to use your own notes, dictionaries, the textbooks, or other resources around the room for help (but NOT your phones!)

All answers must be turned in on one sheet of paper. • After answering these questions, your group will create an informational poster summarizing what you believe are the three most important ideas in your reading

Your responses should be at least 4 sentences each. • Bearing in mind historical information we discussed today, what topics do you think this film will address? • What observations can you make about the film sleeve (DVD/Video cover)? Describe this image and try to guess what it means in relation to the information you have already learned. • What sort of problems do you think these kids are going to have in the school, with their families, among their friends, or in the 1970s Chilean society?
