  2. Responsibilities • Support the sections/subsections in East Area of R4. • Central Indiana • Fort Wayne • Northeast Michigan • Southeastern Michigan • Toledo • West Michigan

  3. Key Activities in 2007 • Provide the key items you worked in 2007 • Two conference calls inviting all section chairs to participate • Attended Toledo’s Centennial Dinner/Meeting • Forwarded various IEEE and R4 virtual communities e-mails to section chairs

  4. Plan for 2008 • Three teleconferences to keep in touch • Promote new member participation in Region 4 and PACE activities • Encourage more joint Section/Student Branch activity • Recognition of section member and local industry at the section and region levels • Volunteer recruitment

Highlights of 2007 Activities • The section had 35 - 40 events in 2007 including technical meetings on RFID, VOIP, Arc Flash Hazards, Informatics Database for biological Data, Intellectual Property Issues, Pattern based System Engineering, Forensic Engineering, and an Introduction to Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs). PES/IAS had 2 4-week short courses in March and October. We also enjoyed an Annual Picnic Baseball Outing, annual awards banquets for PES and the Section, and several facility tours including the Altairnano Research Facility in Anderson and the Purdue Office of Engagement. • The section also sponsored 5 TISP sessions, Sponsored 1 FIRST team that won an Essay Writing Contest, and Sponsored the annual Nation Engineer’s Children’s Day at Children’s Museum in Indianapolis. • One other notable accomplishment for 2007 was the formation of a new sister organization called the “Indiana Council of Engineering Societies (ICES)”. This coalition of ~15 engineering society’s has come together to share resources, volunteers, and events in Central Indiana. Its formation can be traced to successful volunteer outreach from the yearly Children's Museum Event. The ICES will sponsor 3 events in 2008 with the help of CIS-IEEE.

Plan for 2008 • The section is planning around 35 events for 2008 - including • 4 (4 week) short courses - 2 by PES/IAS, 2 by CIS-IEEE • An Annual Awards Banquet in April • The Annual National Engineer’s Children’s day at the Children’s Museum (Feb) • 5-7 TISPs and/or TISP related events • Annual Baseball Picnic Outing • Sponsor the ICES “All Engineering” Banquet • Senior Member Rodeo • Technical Presentations - including • Green Buildings and Energy Efficiency - Bill Brown • Advances in SCADA Technology • EMBS/CS - Future Trends in Data Mining by Dr. Jawei Han • Tours • The Midwest Independent System Operator (MISO) • I Power Energy System Tour in Anderson • Lugar Alternative Energy Center AND MORE…

  8. How Can R4 Help in Meeting Your Section’s Goals? • Help getting real E-Commerce solution for web-site real time credit card processing. • Guidance on any limitations in regard to corporate sponsorship of activities. • Money.

Highlights of 2007 Activities • We held two meetings. • Name two most successful activities that your section had in 2007 and reason for their success. • The most successful of the meetings was our visit to Laker Elementary School near Pigeon , MI. The school generated electricity using wind power.

How Can R4 Help in Meeting Your Section’s Goals? • Our goals are to • Hold more meetings • Have at least two of the meetings be visits to local industry • These are goals that don’t require Region 4 help. • Perhaps next year we will have progressed to the point where we can benefit from R4 help.

Highlights of 2007 Activities • Two section conferences, with 250 attendees • Many chapter activities • Career and employment workshop • Two new chapters and three new committees formed • Section website • Section IEEE communities (~100 members) • Kevin Taylor Received Outstanding Services Award from IEEE

Plan for 2008 • Section Biannual conferences (April and November 2008) • Women In Engineering Meeting • MPAC workshop • Career Management workshop • Many chapter activities: five most active chapters • Delegates to attending IEEE USA Conference and IEEE Sections Congress • IEEE Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference (September 2009) planning • EMC Conference in Detroit

  21. How Can R4 Help in Meeting Your Section’s Goals? • Volunteer recruitment: we still have a few chapters whose officers are not actively providing programs. • Employment Services, given the Michigan Economy situation

  23. Highlights of 2007 Activities Celebrated the Section’s Centennial. Sponsored “Mathcounts” competition. Actively supported the Student Chapter of IEEE. Provided opportunities for members to acquire Continuing Education Credits. Centennial Celebration: Planned well in advance and promoted frequently. Presentation on Software Security: subject interesting to a large spectrum of persons.

  24. Plan for 2008 Continue to sponsor “Mathcounts” Provide opportunities for Continuing Education credits. Reinvigorate section with activities of interest to membership. Continue working closely with the Student Chapter. Increase member participation in Section activities

How Can R4 Help in Meeting Your Section’s Goals? • Provide list of subjects and speakers available for presentations. • Provide guidelines of “Best Practices” for maintaining and increasing section membership. Same for increasing member participation in Section activities. • Provide training on “Running a successful Section”.
