  2. Subject • the topic of the sentence, what it’s about. • It will centre on the noun/pronoun that the main verb goes with. • Ask yourself, “What or who is this sentence about?”

  5. Predicate = the action part of the sentence.

  6. Predicate = the action part of the sentence. Simple predicate = the main verb Complete predicate = the main verb and the part of the sentence that completes it.

  8. HINT • Always start with the action. • What is happening in this sentence? (That’s the predicate) • Who or what is doing it? (That’s the subject)

  9. Copy these into your notebook • Bob ate all of his dinner. • On a dark and stormy night, Bob met the woman of his dreams, Clarissa. • But luckily, he banged his head on the table. • She then asked him to dance.

  21. Complete Subjects and Predicates • The difference is that the complete subject and predicate take not only the main noun and verb, but all the words that are working with them.
