  1. Introduction to the Mobile Laptop Carts

  2. Mobile Cart Reservations • Use Google calendar • Email 3 things to Natalie: • Type of computer • Date(s) • Period(s) • 2 weeks max for any teacher (could change) • Multiple reservations per day • Science Teachers have priority with science laptop cart

  3. Netbook vs. MacbookInstructional Uses • Netbooks useful for researching on the Web, writing assignments, presentations, etc. • The Netbook may not run multiple intensive programs quickly • When signing out, please only use the Mac lab if you need higher processing power (Garageband, iPhoto, iMovie, etc.)

  4. Cart Setup • Turn off the main power switch before unplugging and plugging the mobile lab cart into an outlet • If the cart’s power is on, the outlet may spark • Make sure to turn the cart back on, esp. overnight • Both plugs should be plugged in • Ethernet cable to wall jack • Scramble combo after opening, lock cart when leaving your classroom

  5. Common Questions • Substitutes may not use the mobile labs • Students may not move the carts • Please keep laptops and cables organized to help extend the life and usefulness of the carts • Packing up early is crucial. You can assign one or two students per class to organize the cart • It is the responsibility of teachers to move carts between classes or to the Media Center

  6. Issuing to Students • Please use sign out binder consistently • Try small groups or single student to hand out • Have students carry laptops with 2 hands and keep laptops on a flat surface while working. If a laptop has an error, do not remove it from the classroom. Instead, ask the Media team to come help. • Allow 5 minutes to return laptops to cart • Students should save all work to the Desktop and then drag to their Network Folder before logging out

  7. Student Login Changes • Students now have a consistent login ID from K-12. Students now also choose their own password • Go to: https://secure.hcpss.org/accounts/ • If a student has persistent login problems, dial 9, then x 1553 for the Account Help Desk • Worst case scenario: send that student, not the laptop, to the Media Center

  8. Help • For general Tech Help call x 7004 • https://secure.hcpss.org/accounts • Call x 1553 for Password Help • Send student to media center w/o their laptop • BBMS Tech Wiki
