  1. By: Ryan Johnson 2nd period Filmmaking Analysis of The Scottsboro Boys

  2. Political Issues • The Scottsboro Boys faced racism in this documentary. • 9 black males accused of raping 2 white women in the rural South • The crime was never committed! • Communist used this case to push their own belief of government.

  3. Cinematography Pictures were a big part in this documentary It shows how the struggle for the boys were so hard The boys were almost “celebrities” for all the wrong reasons Images shown in the 2nd picture described how the train was set up, and how the women were caught in their lies.

  4. Filmmaker’s Take • I believe the filmmaker was completely on the side of the boys. • He showed how the women and boys were brought up to build up suspense • Also, the filmmaker showed how the women added on to the story and made up things as they went along. • Criticism would be that they made the women out to be bad people, which they were.

  5. Questions I would ask ??? • Why did the Scottsboro boys keep going back to trial? • Why couldn’t the judge figure out the women were lying when they didn’t answer the questions? • There were no evidence that the boys raped them…..so how could you even keep a trial like that? • How did that one situation mess up most of their lives and lead them into lives of other messes and etc?

  6. 7. Impact on Me This film has impacted me by how these boys were badly mistreated and how these two women lying changed their lives for good. Racism is a was a big part in America and still is and we as people still have to work together to diffuse that problem.
