  3. Don’t delay. This is a big project. Good News … • Gives you a lot of exposure to library business resources. • Not intended to be a scavenger hunt. • You’ll have guidance about the company and industry resources that you can use. • You’ll see some new terminology.

  4. Ticker or Stock Symbols • Group of letters and/or numbers. • Identifies share of publicly traded company on specific stock exchange. • Frequently offered as a search option on a business database • Example – Coca Cola Co (The) • Ticker is KO. • Stock is traded on New York Stock Exchange.

  5. Public vs. Private Companies Coca-Cola Co (The) • Publicly held. • Sells stock on NYS exchange with Ticker KO. • A lot of information disclosed to public. • Easier for you to research. Adirondack Beverage Company, Inc. • Privately held. • Very little information disclosed to public. • Much harder for you to research.

  6. SIC & NAICS - Soft Drink Manufacturing Example Two numeric systems: SIC: 2086 (Bottled & Canned Soft Drinks) (older/broader/fewer categories) NAICS: 312111 (Soft Drink Manufacturing) (newer/more categories/more drill down) Primary SIC or NAICS = Primary line of business. 312111 is NAICS for Coca Cola Co. (The) • Assigned to companies and/or industries. • Groups together companies in same primary industry. • NAICS more detailed/more current than SIC • See your professor on selection of company/industry NAICS/SIC
