  2. Points of Consideration • In 1990-1991, the U.S. had 2.1 million English Language Learners enrolled in the classroom. • In 1999-2000, the enrollment of English Language Learners in U.S. classrooms increased to 3.7 million.

  8. Information from the Language Census • There are 56 major language groups • In 2003, 2,531,481 students reported as speaking a language other than English at homes. (Includes EL’s and FEP’s) This represents over 40% of public school enrollment.
