  2. Welcome to Conneaut High School “Home of the Spartans”

  4. Community Service • All students are required to perform at least 25 hours of community service. • Community Service Handbooks are available in the main office.

  5. Student Conduct Code Education can’t proceed without an atmosphere of discipline Our goal is to provide students with an educational opportunity in a school atmosphere that comfortable and safe • Please Review Handbook pages 6-14

  6. Ways to Avoid Disciplinary Consequences • Comply with reasonable and ordinary requests of staff. For example “sit down, stop talking, work on your assignment”. • Stay in your assigned areas. Don’t leave a classroom without teacher permission or the building without a principal’s permission. • Leave MP-3 players , cameras and other electronic devices at home. We are not responsible if they are damaged or stolen. • Cell Phones are to be turned off and kept in your lockers

  7. Dress Code Parents please help by… • Reading the dress guidelines on pages 11 and 12 of the handbook. • Making sure no clothing or wallets with chains are worn to school. • Reminding students no holes, frayed look, on skirts, pants, and shorts are permitted above the knees.

  8. Not allowing students to wear pajama/lounge wear types of bottoms. • Making sure students are not wearing sagging pants that allow undergarments to be exposed. • Checking that skirts and shorts are not shorter than mid thigh. • Reminding students that hats, caps, and hoods are not to be worn in the building. Hats , caps, and coats are to be kept in lockers.

  9. Late to School/Homeroom Being late to school/homeroom requires a parent note. A total of 5 parent notes will be accepted for the year. Anytime a student is late without a parent note or is late more than 5 times without doctor excuses or other appointment documentation, they will receive disciplinary consequences. Late students must report to the office. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action.

  10. Attendance • The student handbook covers attendance policies. Please review them. • Must be in attendance a full day to participate • High school course credit may be reduced or denied for excessive absence. You may be placed on attendance probation for absence beyond five days depending upon circumstances.

  11. The Laws • State law requires that a written excuse be sent to school after each absence even if you call in. • For your child’s safety Federal law requires families to report their children off when absent. You may call in 24 hours at 440-593-7210 Press 1 for the nurse’s office. • Automated Calls are made

  12. Unacceptable Reasons • Needed at home –The state only allows needed at home or caring for family members if both parents are deceased or incarcerated. • Personal Reasons-We do not wish to invade your privacy but the state does not allow us to excuse a day without a defined reason. • Please allow for extra time to account for trains.

  13. Excessive Absences • Letters- Legal Warning, Court Citations • At 5 Days Absent (Letter of Concern) • At 9 Days Absent (Legal Warning) • Formal Documentation Needed for the remainder of the year. • At 12 Days Court Citation

  14. Vacations • Out of town or on vacation is unexcused unless: • Arranged with the attendance office one week in advance. Parents must send a written request. • The days do count as absences and as a part of the total.

  15. Coming and Going Students are truant any time they leave the building without properly signing out of the building through the nurses or student services office. Blue Admit slips are issued in homeroom.

  16. School Information • The high school calendar is available in the student handbook and online at the district web site. www.cacsk12.org • If school is cancelled you will be notified by the automated phone system. Please be sure to notify us whenever your phone number changes.

  17. Problems If you need to schedule a meeting with the principal, assistant principal, athletic administrator, or a teacher please call the office. We will try to set it up as soon as possible. We do not want to inconvenience you by having no one able to see you, so please do not just drop in. We do want to take care of your problems but sometimes there are other meetings or duties already scheduled.
