By the end of this workshop, you will be able to: • have an overview on different types of information available in Datastream in order to know the strengths and weaknesses of Datastream. • apply different search strategies in using Datastreamin order to extract relevant information efficiently and effectively. • use Excel to extract information from Datastream in order to make better use of the data for further analysis and build complex models and reports.

  3. What is Datastream? • Historical financial database • Create customised reports and charts • Dynamic downloads into MS Office Applications (AFO) • Wide content coverage

  4. NAVIGATION– 5 STEPS • Select a data category • Search for and select series using the Datastream Navigator • Select the type of request • Set the time period and/or frequencies • Click on Run Now to execute your request. 4 2 1 5 3

DS AFO – EXCEL ADD-IN • An Excel Add-In component which allows users to build complex models and reports • Static data for a specific date e.g. price, market capital value, PE for HSBC at 3 Oct 2012) • Time series data for a particular time period e.g. daily price for Cheung Kong from 01/01/1974 to 01/01/2012
