Economic and Environmental Influences This area of study could include topics such as the following: • creating and maintaining a safe environment for children • the role of resources in supporting the needs of children • the food and nutritional requirements of children, supporting healthy eating practices, and current national guidelines • environmental influences on antenatal development and children’s health • well-being and connectedness in the community • the influence of poverty on family and community structures.

  3. Influencing factors • The decision you make must take into account the area of study – these economic and environmental influences relate strongly to the task. • Safe environment • Resources to support a child’s needs • Community connectedness

  4. Safety Considerations • Demonstrate that you have an understanding of the importance of safety considerations • Size of the pieces • Sturdy construction • Safe materials – non-toxic, non-flammable • Stability

  5. Supporting needs • Need to grow and develop • Play is vital to child development – play is children’s work • Consider age and developmental capabilities • Consider types of play and what is suitable • Resources supporting needs – toys and materials and their role in play

  6. Connectedness to the community • Global Environmental movement –awareness and involvement create a connectedness and contribute to the child’s and family’s sense of community contribution and hence well being. • Important to choose something to give it a second life. NO NEW MATERIALS CAN BE BOUGHT
