  7. TURKISH EDUCATION SYSTEM Turkey is bordered by eight countries: Bulgaria to the northwest; Greece to the west; Georgia to the northeast; Armenia, Azerbaijan and Iran to the east; and Iraq and Syria to the southeast.

  8. TURKISH EDUCATION SYSTEM PRE-PRIMARY EDUCATION Pre-school education is optional and covers children who have not yet reached the age of entry to primary education.

  9. TURKISH EDUCATION SYSTEM PRIMARY EDUCATION Primary Education, which is free at all state schools, is for the education ofchildren between the ages of 6 and 14, and it is compulsory for all.

It is responsible for Personnel, appointment, examination, investigation, evaluation, in-service training and student affairs, Program Development, Pre-primary Education,  Special education and Guidance, Scholarships and Dormitories, Private Education Institutions, Non-formal Education,  Apprenticeship, Vocational Technical Education

  16. FREE COURSE BOOKS For the first time in the history of our Republic • Course books were distributed to all students of the primary education, 2003. The cost is: • 157 Trillion TL,($104 million), 2010 • 175 Trillion TL ($116 million), 2011.

  25. MONE INFORMATION SYSTEM (MEBBİS) • Aim: Provide efficent and fast services • Studies: • Acquiring new modules and software • Converting current software to INTERNET-based ones

  26. PROMOTION IN TEACHING PROFESSION • All teachers must hold a university degree. • Amendment of the law to create promotion system for teachers (July 8, 2004) • “Teaching Competencies” as defined in EU standards.

  27. TEACHING COMPETENCIES • In 2010-2011 regarding general competencies : • 6 maincompetencies, • 39 sub-competencies, • 244 performanceindicatorshavebeendefined; • Draft on general andfieldcompetencies has beenprepared. • Withintheschoolyear 2010-2011: Thedraftwill be finalizedafterpiloting.
