Se li dóna aquest nom per contraposar-la a les terres baixes del Baix Ebre i de la Ribera. CAPITAL:Gandesa MUNICIPI MÉS GRAN:Gandesa MUNICIPIS:12 POBLACIÓ:12.724 hab. SUPERFÍCIE:743,36 km

  3. PRINCIPALS POBLACIONS:Batea,Corbera d'Ebre,Fatarella,Horta de Sant Joan,Pinell de Brai

  4. MONUMENS I TRADICIONS:La comarca presenta vestigis abundants d'antigues civilitzacions. Al Tossal del Moro de Pinyeres, a Batea, es conserven habitacles i tot un sistema defensiu amb una torre, dels ibers; i al Coll del Moro, de Gandesa, s'han trobat necròpolis i diverses fortificacions. Els monuments d'època posterior es troben sobretot a Gandesa. La Terra Alta és un important centre de cuina tradicional catalana. Són reconeguts el "conill amb all i oli", els "cargols", les "faves a la catalana", la "perdiu al caçador", i en pastisseria les "magdalenes" i la "coc de mel". Margot Martina
