  2. The Program • Open to first-years, sophomores, juniors • Currently 32 internship opportunities available • Goal: to provide students with an opportunity to gain practical work experience in and learn about civic and community engagement

  3. Benefits • $2,000 stipend (more with Federal Work Study) • On-campus housing in Newport Dormitory • Transportation to and from work

  5. Timeline • February 28: APPLICATION DUE ON EXPERIENCE / ASIP • TBD: Scheduled (Phone) Interview with your site supervisor • June 1: Access to housing • June 2-4: PVP program-specific workshop sessions • June 5-July 29: Working at site • June 30: End of program BBQ / Presentation

The Internships • Mostly non-profit sites • Fields / Interests: • Education / Mentoring / Literacy • Environment / (Sustainable) Agriculture / Conservation • Poverty / Homelessness / Hunger • Public Policy • Public Health / Reproductive Health / HIV/AIDS • History / Museum • Community Development / Urban Transformation • Food & Commodities • Human Rights / Workers’ Rights • Racism / Sexism / Classism

  8. Being on campus • Gym, Val & Library open • Umass Health Services open • Vans can be reserved for recreational day trips • Taste of Amherst and other town festivals • Outdoor activities • Museums and amusement park nearby! • Mass MOCA 1.5 hours away
