  6. Problems in the 1990s • 1990-1995: 27,000 jobs disappear • Highest rate of unemployment in Sweden • People leave Malmö • Tax revenue keeps shrinking • Little tradition of higher education

  15. The Nightingale Mentor project • Began in 1997 • Over 1000 children and mentors have taken part • 90 mentors and 90 children join every year • They meet for 2-3 hours a week

  18. Malmö Academic Choir and Orchestra • Brings together about 70 musicians • Annual Summer, Spring, Lucia and Christmas concerts • Other concert projects in co-operation with local musicians • International co-operations with choirs and orchestras

  19. We create community through culture • We are part of the cultural life of Malmö • Make everyone who lives in Malmö feel proud and part of the university • University staff take pride in their choir and orchestra • Give added value to students
