our mission
Our Mission

Home for Good Dog Rescue (HFG) is a volunteer-based, 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue in Summit, NJ with offices in Berkley Heights. Our mission is to rescue, nurture and adopt homeless dogs into loving homes for good. We are a network of foster homes committed to the well-being of adoptable pets. We strive to give the dogs another chance at life.

why rescue a dog from the south
Why Rescue a Dog from the South?
  • Each year, approximately 3.5 million animals are euthanized. Of them, 60percent (2.1 million) are dogs
    • gas chambers, lethal injection, heart stick
  • Georgia and South Carolina have the highest euthanasia and kill shelters in the United States
    • In Georgia, 65 – 70 percent, or 7 out of 10 dogs, animals admitted into the Augusta shelter were euthanized. This is well above the national average of about 50 percent.
    • In the South Carolina, the euthanasia rate was at 52 percent in 2013 according to the Aiken County shelter.

The Journey from the Southto New Jersey

HFG pulls dogs from Georgia, South Carolina and takes local owner surrenders

Dogs are put in southern foster homes

HFG works with southern fosters to care for dogs not able to make it to NJ due to socialization and medical needs

Those dogs that are ready are transported to NJ

Once in NJ, they are bathed, vaccinated, microchipped etc.

Our passionate and dedicated fosters in NJ bring dogs home and to weekend adoption events or “Meet & Greets”

2015 Capital Campaign – “Almost Home”

Home for Good Dog Rescue (HFG) is embarking on a new project in 2015 to build a halfway facility in the south called “Almost Home.” This facility will enable us to give proper medical care for our dogs that we pull from high kill shelters in South Carolina and Georgia that cannot make the journey to New Jersey just yet.

Our current goal is to raise $500,000 to build the “Almost Home” facility. We are asking for major donors to sponsor the building of the facility and the rooms needed to make it an effective space to care for our dogs. As an appreciation for their generous support, donors will receive recognition in the new facility.
