European Food Framework • Aim: to develop a pan-European food competence framework to improve the health of young people aged 5-16 years • Project duration: February 2010 – January 2012 • Part 1. Establish the Framework competences: -diet (food and drink) -active lifestyles -energy balance • Part 2. Engage young people - 5 x pilot projects.
UK pilot project British Nutrition Foundation work with the Food Standards Agency (FSA), 2007/2008 • Developed the FSA Core Food Competences for the UK which covered: • Diet and health • Cooking • Consumer Awareness • Food safety • Developed young person friendly resources for age 5-16 years – Food route resources • Very successful across the UK
Resources developed Phase 1 & 2 Active lifestyles and Energy balance • Users’ guides • Target charts • Activity booklets
Resources developed Phase 3 & 4 Active lifestyles and Energy balance • Users’ guides • Diary-style booklets
Pilot and launch • 44 + pilot volunteer schools • Pilot from 5 September 2011 until 21 November 2011 • Feedback collected via online survey • Resources will be amended in the light of feedback • Resources to be launched in January 2012 Pilot resources are available to download at: www.europeanfoodframework.eu
