  2. WHERE SHE CAME FROM • Stephanie St. Clair “Queenie” was born on the small island Martinique in 1886. In 1912 she arrived in Harlem, New York. • (no other info. About childhood is available)

  3. AFTER ARRIVING • In her 20’s she soon became deeply involved in the gangster underworld. • Was affiliated with the 40 Thieves Gang • Branched off and started/lead one of the leading numbers games in Harlem city

  4. LEADERSHIP • Her ability to bribe and charm others is what got her into becoming a good leader over others. Her skills of being a business woman also lead into her coming of power. Her sophisticated way of dressing also got her to be respected by other’s in Harlem who called her Madame St Clair.

  5. FOLLOWERS • Partner Ellsworth “Bumpy” Johnson • People she helped with her money • Others in other smaller gangs below hers

  6. TRAITS Positive negative • Bribed people to get what she wanted • Arrogant • unfriendly • Had much money to offer to others • Respected because of her power • Good/tough business woman

  7. THE FALL • Due to the rising power of a man, named Dutch Schultz, in 1932 St Clair had to go into hiding for fear of her life

  8. After about 30 years of obscurity and 18 years of power St Clair died in 1969 in her sleep at age 83.
