  1. Homework tonight: Read Ch. 3 Study for vocab quiz Lesson 6 You need your 10 Steps book!

  2. Warm-Up: Question #1 During my last physical, the doctor found a little lump in my throat. I’m going to the hospital tomorrow so they can check out what it is. The doctor said it was most likely a harmless cyst, but of course he would say that. What’s he going to say: “Sorry—looks like cancer to me”? He also said that if it is cancer, it’s probably of a kind that is easily treated. Right, I thought. He’s trying to be nice, I know, but I also know how these things go. First he’ll say it’s nothing; then he’ll say it’s cancer but no big deal; and finally he’ll tell me the truth. I’m done for. What’s the tone? (Tone words—page 327) Ashamed, forgiving, indignant, ironic, objective, pessimistic, sentimental, or tolerant?

  3. Don’t know the words? Page 327!!! • Ashamed • Forgiving • Indignant—angry about something unfair or mean • Ironic—meaning the opposite of what is expressed • Objective—not influenced by feelings or personal prejudices • Pessimistic—looking on the gloomy, unfavorable side of things • Sentimental—showing tender feelings; romantic; overly emotional • Tolerant—respectful of other views and behavior; patient about problems

  4. Warm-Up: Question #2 In the possible occurrence of a zombie apocalypse, certain measures involving shelter, food, weapons, and fitness should be taken to better the chances of survival. The first key to survival is having a sustainable, zombie-proofed shelter. Whether it is a house, store, RV, or any other building, you will need a safe place to sleep at night. If your town has not yet been ransacked completely by zombies, staying at home in a familiar environment will be your most successful option. You will need to zombie-proof your house by boarding up all windows and make sure all your doors have sturdy, reliable locks. No matter what shelter you seek, make sure it is sturdy and you don’t draw attention to yourself. No matter how strong the walls are, if a large herd of zombies sees your shelter, your chances of survival will dramatically decrease. What’s the tone? Cheerful, arrogant, disbelieving, depressed, objective, or optimistic?
