  3. Key Ideas • “Planning is fundamentally a way of creating things: a garden, a vacation, a new phase of life, a piece of art.” • “Renewal planning is an intentional joining with God in God’s continuing process of creation to bring new hope and healing to the world.” • Renewal Planning is an Art Form.

  4. Key Ideas • “The goals your group ultimately articulates, even if they are small, need to serve God’s overarching call to your congregation.” • “A failure to plan is a plan to fail.” Unknown • It’s a Team Effort! • K.I.S.S.

  5. S.M.A.R.T. Plan • Specific • Measurable • Attainable • Relevant • Time-Bound: Time-Line • Note: Not for use @ Vestry Meetings!

  6. Specific • What do we want to accomplish? • Does it fit our parish vision/Mission? • Who is involved? • Caution: Beware of Burnout! • What are the benefits of accomplishing this goal?

  7. Measurable • How much? How many? By when? • How do we know when the goal is accomplished?

  8. Attainable • Given our resources, and the circumstances of time and situation, is this goal realistic? • Even though we don’t yet see how, do we believe we can achieve it? • Is the goal too big? Not big enough? (Revelation in Progress)

  9. Relevant • What makes the goal worthy of our time and efforts? • What is the immediate large vision of the congregation?

  10. Time-Line • When must this goal be completed? • How might events on the larger church calendar affect our work and this completion date?
